Disclosure-I was given the supplies used in this post as part of a blog sponsorship with Micador. I was not obligated or paid to blog about them.
I don’t play with my kids. That’s a whole other post for a whole other day but in a nutshell I believe that play is important kid business that adults should keep their noses out of most of the time.
I do, however, do art with my kids. I love setting up a creative table or making play dough or painting.
Lately I’ve been setting up a table for me, often with the fancy supplies (like the watercolour crayons pictured) and leaving some room and paper for the kids to join me if they choose.
I set about creating a bit of art for myself with no expectation that anyone will join in or use the supplies in the same way that I am.
More often than not I end up with at least one of the kiddos with me. And they usually start out copying what I’m doing.
I’m not a great artist and I often make mistakes and start over. This means there is no pressure for any of us. Just the joy of creating some art together.
There is time to chat and unwind while everyone’s creation becomes more individual.
It’s a great opportunity for us to connect and share some time together in a way that feels easy for us all.
I plan to do it more often.
